North Devon Theatre Fringe Festival 2007

The photograph shows the team who represented the Torrington Players at the North Devon Theatre Fringe Festival on 29 and 30 June 2007. They presented a linked sequence of five monologues under the collective title Anyone Backstage?, written by Torrington Players member Stephanie Easton. The piece had already been performed at the Exmouth Regional Festival of One Act Plays in April that year, where it received three awards: Best Original Play, Best Characterisation (for Mary Brodie) and Best Actress (for Rosie Balfour).

The two other actresses in the production were also among the remaining seven nominations for Best Actress, giving the company an impressive presence on the shortlist.

At Exmouth the part of the Dresser was played by Simon Mathews, who was unable to appear at the Fringe. His role was taken on by Jim Young, a member from Hartland, who accepted the challenge with his customary enthusiasm. The Fringe performances were warmly received and applauded by a small but clearly engaged audience, after which the cast repaired to The Cedars Restaurant and Bar for a well‑earned debrief and celebration.
